Rocco Malin contacted me on March 15, 2019, and said he was looking for a triathlon coach. He signed up for Ironman Arizona, and needed some coaching help to get there. We met at a coffee shop, and Rocco told me about his background. He’d never done a triathlon, didn’t really swim, and didn’t have a bike. And, because of a “bunch” of recent surgeries, he hadn’t yet received medical clearance to run. In addition, he was working two jobs, working on his degree, and was involved in his Motorcycle Santa activities. Before we met, I couldn’t believe that 8 months was enough time to prepare him for a full course race. But after we met, I had no doubt that he’d crush it. Working with Rocco over the past 8 months is one of the highlights of my coaching career. I couldn’t be more proud to hear these words last night from Arizona: Rocco Malin, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN! He did indeed crush it. (a big shoutout to Matt Place for giving me first hand updates throughout the day). Now, a little rest, and it’s time for Motorcycle Santa to spread some holiday cheer. Bruce Clayton Rocco Malin … See MoreSee Less

So proud to have coached this man through his first Ironman, and to see him come through the finish line on Saturday at Ironman Maryland. As could happen in any race, things don’t always go as planned. After Chuck repaired his flat tire on the bike course, he stoped to assist two athletes who crashed. But that’s Chuck. And as the the clock struck 13:42:01……We heard “Chuck Connor YOU ARE AN IRONMAN”. Great job, buddy. Looking forward to continued training through 2020! … See MoreSee Less
